Beginners Free Motion Quilting Day

Learn the basics of Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) on the day you will learn how to set up your machine. How to handle the different threads. You will be shown and then you will practice simple FMQ patterns. Trish your tutor will offer you advice and top tips for getting the best out of your machine. This is a fun class which will give you the tools to start your FMQ journey.

You will need to bring:-

One 12″ x 12″ quilt sandwich in plain fabric

one 24″ x 24″ quilt sandwich in plain fabric

Thread – Either 50 weight cotton OR 40 weight polyester of good quality in contrast colour to your quilt sandwiches.

Bobbin – one spooled with same as main thread AND one spooled with strong contrast colour to thread colour in same weight.

Fitted to your machine a darning/embroidery/FMQ foot

A good quality (Schmitz) microtex needle 80/12 if using cotton, 70/10 if using polyester. Bring spares in case of breakages.

A cheap sketch pad and a choice of pencils/pens.

Extension table for your machine if you have one.

If you possess a Slip Slider mat then bring it along. This is a teflon coated mat to assist the quilt to  move freely.

Your machine manual (ESSENTIAL)

Ahead of the workshop we would ask that you clean your machine including the bobbin race and put in a new needle.
