Popover Pinnyfore Dressmaking Workshop

with Allison

Date: Saturday 7th March
Time: 10.00am – 4.00pm
Location: Patchwork Dreamer Studio, Bodmin
Tutor: Allison
Skill level: Beginner friendly
Group size: Maximum 6 participants

About the Workshop

Come and enjoy a relaxed and creative day making a Popover Pinnyfore – a wonderfully versatile garment that can be worn in two ways. Leave the sides open and wear it as a traditional pinny, or close them for a classic pinafore style that simply pops over your head.

This is a beginner-friendly dressmaking workshop, ideal if you’re new to garment sewing or would like to build confidence working with woven fabrics. Allison will guide you step-by-step through cutting your fabric and constructing your pinnyfore, with plenty of individual support throughout the day.

The finished garment is comfortable, practical, and perfect for everyday wear – whether layered over a top in cooler months or worn on its own in warmer weather.

What’s Included

  • Expert tuition from Allison throughout the day

  • Use of the Popover Pinnyfore pattern (included for all attendees)

  • Pre-prepared pattern pieces provided on the day (no need to trace from the brochure)

  • A friendly, supportive sewing-circle atmosphere in the Patchwork Dreamer studio

Pattern & Sizing

The pattern is designed for UK sizes 8–30.

Bust measurements:

  • 8 / 10: 84–88 cm (33–35″)

Fabric Requirements

These quantities are for a skirt finishing just below the knee. You may lengthen or shorten the garment if you wish, depending on the fabric you have.

There are no pattern pieces for the skirt – it is constructed from two rectangles which are gathered or pleated across the width.

Fabric width: 112cm or 155cm

  • Sizes 8/10, 12/14: 2.75 metres

  • Sizes 16/18, 20/22: 3 metres

  • Sizes 24/26, 28/30: 3.75 metres

Recommended Fabrics

A stable woven fabric is essential for this project. Suitable options include:

  • Cotton

  • Poplin

  • Lawn

  • Chambray

  • Lightweight denim

  • Pre-washed calico

  • Osnaburg

Viscose can also be used, but the bodice lining will need to be interfaced.
A needlecord may be used, but the bodice will need a finer lining fabric.

  • Your sewing machine (with power lead and foot pedal)

  • Fabric as per the requirements above

  • Matching thread

  • Basic sewing kit (pins, scissors, seam ripper, etc.)

  • Packed lunch (tea and coffee provided) or pop next door to Moorlands
