You will learn how to:
- Thread your overlocker correctly from scratch
- Adjust and balance the thread tension
- Work with different fabric constructions and fibre contents
- Set your machine for a variety of overlocking stitches
- Choose the correct stitch settings for different sewing processes
- Build confidence using your own overlocker
You will practise on a selection of woven and knitted fabrics so that you can see how your machine behaves with different materials.
Afternoon Project
Depending on the overall speed and experience of the class, you will have the opportunity to use your new skills to make a patchwork tote bag during the afternoon.
Please Bring
- Any make or model of overlocker in good working order
- Note book and pen to document all your settings
- Your overlocker accessories, including tweezers
- Your machine instruction manual
- Your general sewing kit, including fabric scissors and a tape measure
- Four different coloured overlocker threads, if possible
- A variety of woven and knitted fabrics for practice samples
- Coordinating fabrics approximately 45cm wide in a selection of lengths for the patchwork tote bag
