Overlocking The Basics Workshop

This course is aimed to introduce the learner to the basics of using an
overlocker machine for sewing. We will explore what an overlocker is,
the basic parts of the machine and its functions.

Covers everything from taking out the box, threading, stitches, trouble shooting and maintenance one day.

On this day workshop you will learn:-

1. Overview of what an overlocker is and its functions.
2. Follow safe working practices using a domestic overlocker machine.
3. How to set up the overlocker.
4. Identify suitable threads and needles for sewing fabrics.
5. Understand how to adjust settings for different stitches and fabrics.
6. Identify suitable fabrics for overlocking whilst considering factors such as drape and
stretch.
7. Learn and practise fundamental overlocking techniques including seaming,
gathering and hemming.
8. Identify and troubleshoot common issues such as thread tensions and uneven
stitches.
9. Understand how to perform basic maintenance tasks to keep the overlocker in
good working condition.
10. Using the overlocker machine to produce fabric samples.

You will need to bring:
Pen/pencil
Note book
Sewing kit
Overlocker kit
multi colour thread
